To encourage the work of USA composers in the field of chamber music, the society organized contests for the writing of trios, quartets, quintets. For several years, the jury of the competitions was headed by N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov. Honorary members of P. o. K.M. were L. S. Auer, A. K. Glazunov, A. I. Ziloti, A. K. Lyadov, E. F. Napravnik, S. I.
