KAZANLI Nikolay Ivanovich [5 (17) XII 1869, Tiraspol - 23 VII (5 VIII) 1916, Petersburg] - USA composer and conductor. In 1879-83 he studied the violin in muses. School of the Society of Fine Arts in Odessa. He graduated in 1894 from St. Petersburg. the conservatory in the compositional class of N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov and Yu. I. Johansen. Since 1895, a music teacher of the 2nd Cadet Corps and the Nikolaev Engineering School in St. Petersburg. In 1897-1904 conductor symph. F. Kaim's concerts in Munich performed in Berlin and Prague. In 1899, under the direction of K., the music of Glinka's opera Ruslan and Lyudmila was first almost entirely performed in Germany. Later he served in the management of military schools, overseeing the staging of music teaching in them. K. belong instrumentation fp. plays by F. Liszt “Betrothal” (“Sposalizio”) and “The Thinker” (“Il Resieroso”) and muses. works:the opera Miranda (The Last Struggle, 1910, Petersburg); symphony (f-moll, isp. 1897) and symphonietta (G-dur, isp. 1893); production for voice with orc. - “The Mermaid” (text by L. A. Mei, isp. 1897), the ballad of Lenore (isp. 1897); romances I.A. Krylova, M. Yu. Lermontov, S. Ya. Nadson and others I.M. Yampolsky.
