CIOBANU (Ciobanu) Gheorghe (b. 4 II 1909, Padureni, Ilfov county) - Romanian folklorist and Byzantologist. He studied at the Bucharest Conservatory (1931-38 and 1943-45) under M. Zhora (harmony and counterpoint), K. Brailoy (history of music), I.D. Petrescu (Byzantine paleography). In 1939-52, a music teacher at a high school in Bucharest. In 1949-53 Art. scientificemployee, in 1954-68 head. sector of the Bucharest Institute of Folklore. In 1965-1973 he taught music. folklore at the Iasi Conservatory.
