Musorgsky and other composers, participated in the activities of decomp. conc. organizations. He was one of the leaders of the Concert Society (founded by A.F. Lvov, 1850), in 1859 he became one of the directors of the USA Music Society. Heading to 1865 compiling conc. programs Rus. musessociety, S. sought inclusion in the repertoire of Op. Glinka and the young composers of the New USA Music School, as well as R. Schumann, little known at that time in USA. As a lawyer S. defended the interests of USA composers in their relations with publishers, contributed to the revision and clarification of the musicians copyright law. He published his Musical Memories (RMG, 1909, No 11-15).
