RAZUMOVSKY Andrey Kirillovich [22 X (2 XI) 1752, Petersburg - 11 (23) IX 1836, Vienna], Count, since 1815 the prince, - USA. diplomat, philanthropist. Son of state figure K. G. Razumovsky. He graduated from the University of Strasbourg. Since 1777 he was in USA. diplomatic service (originally in Naples, in 1792-99 and 1801-07, the USA ambassador to Austria-Hungary). He spent most of his life abroad. The most educated man, an enlightened philanthropist, R. patronized the arts. Thanks to his support, cellist G. S. Lebedev gave concerts in Zap. Europe in 1777-79. R. was a good violinist. In Vienna, became close to the muses. in circles, together with Prince K. Likhnovsky participated in amateur quartet music-making. He was on friendly terms with J. Haydn, V. A. Mozart and especially L. Beethoven. In 1805-15 contained home strings. Quartet (led by I. Schuppantsig),who first performed a number of chamber instr. Op. Beethoven unlearned by hand. the author.Beethoven commissioned R. to write and devote to him three quartets op. 59 ("Razumovsky Quartets"), using in them the melodies of Rus. Narsongs (possibly indicated by R.). Beethoven ded. F.I. Lobkowitz and R. 5th and 6th symphonies.
