For several months, I wrote down everything that I do and feel, while preparing, traveling, rehearsing and performing. I recalled the stories that were told to me, the performances where I had been, and my entire fifty-year journey from student to assistant and to music director. Slowly, but steadily, the book took shape, and every time I sat down for it, new details were added, new memories surfaced.
