B. occupies a special place among the composers of the so-called new Viennese school, to the leading representatives of which he belonged. Neither the ecstatic mysticism of A. Schoenberg nor rationalism were characteristic of him. the abstractness of A. Webern. His work is more humane, vital, emotionally-direct. As in the languagein the figurative content of B. 's music, connections with the art of late romanticism were preserved. The concreteness of B. 's images is determined by the widespread use of existing genres. B. belongs to more than 20 lit. works in which he substantiated his views, promoted the work of composers of the new Viennese school.
