Having left Teplitz on September 29, 1812, Beethoven apparently went straight to Linz, where his brother Johann settled in 1808, who bought a house on the Danube embankment and the pharmacy Under the Golden Crown located in the house (the building has been preserved). Johann was an intelligent pharmacist; At one time, he passed the exam at the University of Vienna and received a diploma giving him the right to manage a pharmacy. But he did not succeed in acquiring a pharmacy in Vienna - it turned out to be too expensive, and Johann found a suitable option only in Linz. Johann invested all his savings in this purchase, but the idea paid off with interest: during the war of 1809 he became rich in the supply of medicines to the French army. Patriotic and moral considerations did not bother him at all.
