The following year, Axl's mother married a man named Stephen Bailey and moved with him to a house on 24th Street, in the east of Lafayette. Bailey adopted the son of his young wife and gave him his last name. So William Rose became William Bailey and remained with him until he renounced the name fifteen years later. His mother gave birth to her husband two more children, so Bill grew up with his brother Stuart and sister Amy. They lived in the city, but went to a village church that stood on a dirt rural road in another part of Tippecano County. Bill Bailey's stepfather was a staunch Pentecostal, an adherent of the “old faith”, which banned alcohol and rock and roll, as well as most of the other joys of life.
