Vegelius at the Conservatory in Helsinki (1895-98), improved with R. Fuchs in Vienna (1899-1901). In 1901-07 he taught at the Conservatory in Helsinki, in 1911-36 he was rector, and from 1919 a professor in the theory of music and composition. Among the students - X. Aaltoyl, S. Ranta, U. Klamy. Muses M.'s language is characterized by national features, the influence of E. Grieg, and also sovr. Western Europe music. The most significant in M.'s work are works of small forms, among which approx. 300 songs and more than 400 fp. plays.
