ISTOMIN (Istomin) Eugene (b. 26 XI 1925, New York) - Amer. pianist. He studied the game of fp. in childhood with K. Ziloti (daughter of A.I. Ziloti), then with R. Serkin at the Institute of Curtis in Philadelphia (1939-43). Since 1943 he has been performing as a soloist with major orchestras in the USA and other countries. Made conc. tour of the countries of 5 continents. I.'s performance is distinguished by its fine art. taste, seriousness of interpretations, perfection of phrasing, high technical craftsmanship. He gained fame as an ensemble, played fp. trio with I. Sterl (violin) and L. Rose (cello). He performed at the invitation of P. Casals to muses. Festival of his name in Prada (1950). Since 1950 he toured in many countries. countries, incl. in the USSR (1965).
