He studied with the organist Pel in Rokytnitsa. In 1823 he moved to Ukraine, for some time he was a music teacher in the Poltava province. In 1827-31 he studied counterpoint at Limmer in Vienna. From 1834 he worked in St. Petersburg (violinist and organist, later head of the Music Office of the imp. Theaters). From 1864 he taught music theory at Pridv. chorister chapel, from 1872 also a librarian of St. Petersburg. conservatory. We studied with G. Yu. K. Arnold, HP Laskovsky, O. A. Petrov, A. N. Serov used his advice. G. was friendly with M.I. Glinka. The author of the oratorio "Flood", requiem, mass, fp. plays, songs, etc.
