ANCHER (Ancerl) Karel (b. 11 IV 1908, Tuchapi) - Czechoslovak conductor. In 1929 he graduated from the Prague Conservatory in the classes of P. Dedechki (conducting), J. Krsiczki and A. Haba (composition). He improved his skills as a conductor with V. Talich at the School of Masters at the Conservatory and with G. Scherchen in Berlin (in 1929-31 his assistant). In 1931–33 he worked as a conductor in the Liberated Theater, and in 1933–38 in Chekhosl. Radio Committee in Prague. In 1939-45, during the Nazis. the occupation of Czechoslovakia, was imprisoned in a concentration camp. Since 1945 conductor Nat. Theater (Prague), in 1947-50 ch. Conductor of the Czechoslovak Orchestra. radio. Since 1950 it is thin. hands. , in 1956-63 hud. hands. and ch. Conductor of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.
