GIRALDONI (Giraldoni) Leone (Lev Ivanovich) [1824, Paris - 19 IX (1 X) 1897, Washington] - Italian singer (bass, then baritone) and wok. teacher. He studied singing in Florence at hand. L. Ronzi and the Paris Conservatory. He successfully performed on opera stages in Italy (including 11 seasons at the La Scala Theater). J. Verdi wrote for him oners “Simon Boccanegra” (1857) and “Masquerade Ball” (1859), in which D. performed the parts of Fiesco and Renato. He left the scene in 1885. He taught singing in the decomp. cities of France, Italy; was a professor at the Milan Conservatory. In 1891-97, he was a professor of singing at the Washington Conservatory. Among others, D.I. took lessons from M.I. and HH Figner. Son D. - Eugenio D. (20 V 1871, Marseille - 23 VI 1924, Helsinki) - singer (baritone). Studied with his mother - C. Ferney-Giraldoni; in the 1900s toured in USA.
