Uribe Olguin (Uribe Holguin) Guillermo [17 III 1880, Bogotá - 18 (according to updated data) VI 1971, ibid.] - Colombian composer, violinist, conductor and teacher. Studied at Nat. musesacademy in Bogotá at R. Figueroa (violin), in 1907-10 - at the Schola Cantorum in Paris by V. d'Andy (composition) and at the Brussels Conservatory at S. Thompson (violin). Founder (1910) and Director (1910-35 and 1942-70) Nat. conservatory in Bogota (created on the basis of the National Academy of Music), as well as the Islands of Symph. concerts under her (headed in 1910-35). In his work, marked by the influence of the French. impressionism, used nat. themes, plots and muses. folklore (for example, Sat. “300 pieces in a folk character” for fp., notebooks 1-13). Most of Op. W.O. is not published. Wrote autobiographical. the story Life of a Colombian Musician (Vida de un musico colombiano, Bogotb, 1941).
