KAZHINSKY (Kazynski) Victor (Victor Matveyevich) [18 (30) XII 1812, Vilnius - 6 (18) III 1867, Petersburg] - Polish composer, violinist, conductor, pianist and organist. He graduated from law. Vilnius University Faculty (1830). He studied music on his own. Some time he took composition lessons from J. Elsner in Warsaw. Until 1836 he was the bandmaster of the opera entreprise W. Schmidhof, in 1836-40 he was organist of the Jono Church in Vilnius. In 1843 he moved to Petersburg. In 1844 he traveled with A.F. Lvov (as his musical secretary) a trip to Germany, which he described in his travel diary. Since 1845, bandmaster of the Alexandrinsky Theater Orchestra. Conducted concerts in which he performed orchestral arrangements by. L. Beethoven made by A. N. Serov. Occasionally performed in concerts as a pianist, was one of the first performers in USA of F.
