ANDRE (Andrei) Johann (28 III 1741, Offenbach - 18 VI 1799, ibid. ) - German composer and music publisher. In 1774 he founded muses in Offenbach. publishing house, which issued during his lifetime approx. 1200 production In 1777-84 muses. hands. one of the Berlin theaters. The author of 19 singspiers (including Erwin and Elmira to the text of I. V. Goethe, post. 1775; Abduction from the Seraglio, or Belmont and Constance, post. 1781), music for dramatic. performances (Seville Barber by Beaumarchais, 1776; Macbeth and King Lear by Shakespeare, 1778). His songs were widely popular ("Lieder und Gesänge beim Klavier", 8 Hefte. B. , 1779-80; "Neue Sammlung", 2 Hefte, V. , 1783-84), in which he adjoins the so-called "Berlin School of Songs", expressing sentimentalist tendencies.
