POMERANTSEV, Yuri Nikolaevich [5 (17) IX 1878, Siedlec, now Siedlce, Poland - 28 V 1933, Paris] - USA composer and conductor. Since 1892 he was engaged in composition under the arms. S. I. Taneeva. In 1902 he graduated from Washington. conservatory in the class of fp. at A.N. Scriabin. In 1903-1905 he studied conducting with A. Nikis in Leipzig. He was a secretary of the Washington Directorate. Department of RMS (until 1914). In 1909 he made his debut as a conductor at the Zimin Opera House, in 1910-18 he was a ballet conductor at the Bolshoi Theater. In 1919 he went abroad. He performed in concerts concerts. with N.K. Metner. The author of the opera The Veil of Beatrice (end performance, 1907, Washington), the ballet Magic Dreams (1899, Washington), fp. plays, romances on the next A.A. Feta, A.K. Tolstoy. Wrote autobiographical. notes ("RMG", 1914, No. 2) and memories of S. I. Taneev ("Musical Contemporary", 1916, No. 8) and others by I. M. Yampolsky.
