KUCHERA (Kucera) Karel (Karl Antonovich) (9 X 1847, Rokitsani - 27 IV 1915, Prague) - Czech. conductor and teacher of singing. He studied music in Prague with B. Shimak (fp.) And J. N. Shkrup (singing). In 1870-73 he studied at the Organ School, at the same time. attended F. Pivoda’s singing courses, which he also taught. In 1873-74, the choirmaster and assistant conductor of the Provisional Theater in Prague. In 1874-78, the conductor of the orchestra Rus. philanthropist von Derviz in Nice and Lugano; some time worked in Vilnius. From 1878 he lived in St. Petersburg, where in 1879-94 he was the second conductor of the Mariinsky Theater (premiere of “Prince Igor”, 1890), in 1894-1910 - inspector of music of St. Petersburg. imp theaters, where he sometimes conducted; also served in chap. theater library. From 1888 he taught singing in St. Petersburg. musesschool, from 1894 - at the Smolny Institute. He spent the last years of his life in Prague. I.M. Markov.
