DUSHKIN (Dushkin) Samuel (p. 13 XII 1891, Suwalki, now the Bialystok Voivodeship, in Poland) - Amer. violinist. He studied in New York y L. C. Auer, in Paris y BA Remy and F. Kreisler (his only student). He made his debut in 1918 in Paris and London, in 1924 - in New York. A brilliant virtuoso, D. was the propagandist of sovr. music. B 1931-37 made a tour, ch. arr. c I.F. Stravinsky (as a pianist-accompanist), performing mainly his works. Stravinsky wrote for D. and dedicated a concert for him to violin and orchestra. For his performances with D., he created a number of plays (including the conc. Duet for violin and fp.), Violin transcriptions (based on the material of his early works - “Italian Suite” from “Pulcinella” and others).
