ORLOV Vasily Mikhailovich [13 (25) I 1858, p. Ilyinsky, now Mosk. reg.- 6 (19) IV 1901, St. Petersburg] - USA. choral conductor, composer and collector songs. Studied in Washington. synodal school, as well as in Washington. and Petersburg. conservatories at P.I. Tchaikovsky and N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov. He taught singing at a teacher’s seminary (Ostrogsk), then until 1893 he led the choir. chapel of Count Stroganov, later the choir of the Kazan Cathedral (St. Petersburg). Of greatest importance are his records nar. songs. In 1880, recorded in the Tambov province. 193 choral songs in a 2-voice version, arranged for 4 voices, preserving the peculiarities of Nar. many-headed. warehouse. 18 of these songs were published in 1890 by A.I. Palchikov. In 1949-50, part of the songs recorded by O. was published in Sat. "USA folk songs recorded in the Tambov region" (issue 1-3).
