ZANDT (Zandt) Maria van (8 X 1861, New York - 31 XII 1919, Cannes, France) - Amer. singer (lyricoco-lorat. soprano). According to nat. dutch woman. She studied singing with her mother, singer J. Vancini van Z. (soprano) and with F. Lamperti in Milan. In 1879 she made her debut in Turin in the party of Zerlina, in the same year she performed at the Kingstyater in London. She sang at the Opera Comedian (Paris, 1880-84 and from 1896), at the Metropolitan Opera (New York, 1891-1892), from 1897 she sang again in Paris and Monte Carlo. She left the scene in 1898. The art of Z. was highly praised by L. Delibes, who wrote the title for her. part in the opera Lakme (first performed in 1883; under the direction of Z. A. V. Nezhdanova played this part). Z. toured a lot, including in USA (for the first time in 1885 in St. Petersburg).
