MARKOVAC (Markovac) Pavava (5 IV 1903, Zagreb - June 1941, Kerestinets) - Croatian musicologist and critic (Yugoslavia). He studied musicology at hand. G. Adler at the University of Vienna. He later worked in Zagreb as a musicologist, muses. criticism and ed., engaged in music. enlightenment, ch. arr. among the working audience. M. was the first yugosl. musicologist whose works are dedicated. the problem of the evolution of muses. culture with social development; in his works he considered and interpreted many others. the phenomenon of muses. art from a Marxist perspective. Author of many articles periodically print. Sep.M.'s work, including about M. I. Glinka, M. P. Mussorgsky, published in the book: “Selected Articles and Essays” (“Izabrani clanci i eseji”, Zagreb, 1957), essays “Watroslav Lisinsky” and “About Our Folk Songs” in translation into USA. langpublished on Sat articles yugosl. musicologists - “From the Past Yugoslav Music” (M., 1970). He died while trying to escape from a concentration camp.
