Lange-Muller (Lange-Muller) Peter Erasmus (1 XII 1850, Frederiksberg, near Copenhagen - 26 II 1926, Copenhagen) - dates. composer and conductor. He took the lessons of fp. games under G. Mattison-Hansen, then studied with E. Neupert at the Conservatory in Copenhagen (since 1871). In 1874 he made his debut as a composer (song cycle "Shulamith and Solomon"). In 1879-83, the 2nd conductor of the Conc. Society in Copenhagen (was one of its founders, 1874). A scholarship named after L.-M. (1925). L.-M. one of the last dates. romantics, the successor of the traditions of P. Heise and I.P. E. Hartman. The individuality of his style was manifested by Ch. arr. in choirs and wok. ensembles discovering nat. features (in the serenade for the male quartet “Midnight Light of Lightning” - “Kornmods glansen ved Midnatstid”, 1879), songs, romances. His operas, distinguished by their colorful orchestration (Chap. Arr. “Viking Blood”),testify to the influence of R. Wagner; most popular was the music for dramas. theater (especially song numbers).
