GROV (Grove) George (13 VIII 1820, Clapham, near London - 28 V 1900, Sydney, near London) - Eng. musesfigure and musicologist. By education and profession an engineer. He worked in Scotland (Glasgow), in Jamaica, Bermuda, from 1846 again in England. From 1850, secretary of the Society of Arts in London, from 1852 secretary, from 1873 Directorate of the Society of the Crystal Palace, for which for 40 years (1856-96) he wrote explanations for concerts. G. is known as the compiler of the great encyclopedic Dictionary of Music and Musicians (Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians, 4 vols. And Don.
