KENTNER (Kentner) Louis Philippe (b.19 VII1905, Karvina, now Czechoslovakia) - Hungarian. pianist. In 1911-22 he studied with A. Szekely, L. Weiner, X. Kösler and Z. Koday at the Academy of Music (since 1918 - the F. Liszt Higher School of Musical Art) in Budapest. Debuted at the age of 15. Concerted in muses. centers of Europe. Participated in the International. piano competitions to them. F. Chopin in Warsaw (1932) and the name of F. Liszt in Budapest (1933). Since 1935 lives in London. Known as the performer of the cycles of all sonatas by L. Beethoven and F. Schubert, prod. V.A. Mozart, F. Chopin, F. Liszt, and also sovr. Englishand Hungarian composers, especially B. Bartok (was the first performer of his 2nd and 3rd fp. concerts). He toured in India in an ensemble with I. Menukhin (1954); all in. and South. America, South Africa, Australia. He toured three times in the Sov. Union (1963, 1964, 1967). K. - author of 3 sonatins and plays for fp., String quintet and quartet, songs, etc. Lit.
