SEGIDILLA (Spanish. Seguidilla) - Spanish folk dance. Accompanied by singing. Appeared in the 15th or 16th centuries. in La Mancha (Castile). M. de Paglia. Seguidilla. From the series “Seven Spanish Folk Songs”. In the 17th century C. widely spread throughout Spain, over time, local varieties arose, of which the most traditional are Murcia and Seville (the latter is better known by the name of sevillana - sevillana, i.e., seguidilla sevillana). The music accompanying S. is a detailed play, including repeated repetitions of Dep. verses of the stanza, instr. introduction, conclusion, as well as small interludes between Dep. poems. For S.'s melodies, natural major is typical (occasionally - alternating major and parallel minor), 3-fold size (3/4), moving pace (allegro, allegretto), cheerful character.
