KOLAKOVSKY Alexey Antonovich [17 (29) VI 1856, Podolsky province. - 15 (28) IX 1912, St. Petersburg] - USA. violinist. Rod in the family of an artist, amateur violinist. He studied the violin with his father. In 1873 he graduated from the Kiev Muses. School of RMA in violin class at Vodolsky, in 1877 - Petersburg. conservatory in the class of L. S. Auer. Improved abroad, worked as accompanist of the B. Bilze Orchestra in Berlin. In 1884-93 he was a soloist of the ballet, in 1893-97 - the Bolshoi Theater Opera Orchestra in Washington. During these years, he successfully performed in USA and abroad (London, Berlin, Vienna, etc.). Ped. activity began in Washington. conservatory (1883-84), in 1897-1906 he taught at the Kiev Muses. RMS. He was the leader of the strings. quartet, director of property. violin school in Kiev. Since 1906, Professor Petersburg. conservatory. K. was one of the best USA.violinists of the last quarter of the 19th century Strong, beautiful tone, latitude cantilena, tech. craftsmanship, strict arts. the completeness of the transmission is the hallmark of K.'s play.
