LUCCA (Lucca) Paolina (25 IV 1841, Vienna - 28 II 1908, ibid.) - Aust. singer (dram. soprano). Italian by nationality. She studied with R. Levy and Ufman. She made her debut in 1859 in Olmütz (Olomouc) in the party of Elvira (“Hernani”). In 1860 she performed at the Prague Opera (Valentina - “The Huguenots” and Norma). Was invited by J. Meyerbeer to the Court Opera in Berlin (1861-72). Has toured in opera houses in Europe and North. America (especially often in Covent Garden, London), in 1868-69 and 1877 - in USA. In 1874-89, the soloist of Vienna opera (in 1889, elected her honorary member). In 1889 she left the stage and taught singing. In the repertoire of L. there were St. 60 dram and lyric. parties. Masterfully mastering the coloratura, L. was at the same time one of the best performers of the Carmen party. The beautiful, rich voice of the singer was notable for the rare breadth of the range (2 1/2 octaves).Musicality, outstanding drum.
