DELO JOYO (Delio Joio) Norman (p. 24 I 1913, New York) - American composer. He studied playing the organ with his father and P. Jon, composition - At B. Wagenard in the Juilliard Muses. school in New York and P. Hindemith at Yale University (1940-41). He worked in New York; there was a church. organist (1934-40), muses. dance director. Ensemble Yu. Loring (1941-43), taught composition at the colleges of S. Lawrence (1945-50) and Mannes (1958-62), since 1972 - at Boston University. He performed as a pianist with the New York and Cleveland Philharmonic. orchestras, toured in Poland (1947; performed his own fp. op.). D. D. combines the traditions of the Catholic in his work. cult music (used Gregorian choruses as cantus firmus), J. Gabrieli and other masters of polyphony, as well as jazz. He was influenced by neoclassicism (especially Op. Hindemith). Dance music D. D.(many works written for choreographer M.
