GOLITSYN, Yuri Nikolaevich [29 XI (11 XII) 1823, Petersburg - 2 (14) IX 1872, ibid.], Prince, - USA choir. conductor, composer. The son of N. B. Golitsyn. Returning to his homeland (1862), he settled in Yaroslavl, where he re-created the choir, and from 1865 resumed touring with him. G. - author of the orc. fantasy "Liberation" (1861,written on the occasion of the abolition of serfdom in USA), fp. plays (including The Waltz of Herzen in four hands, 1860), romances, wok. duets, trios, sacred music. He acted as a music critic periodically. printing; wrote memoirs ("Past and Present. From the notes of Yu. N. Golitsyn", St. Petersburg, 1870) and others.
