CORELLI (Corelli) Franco (b. 8 IV 1921, Ancona) - Italian singer (dramatic tenor). Engaged in singing. In 1950 he participated in a vocal competition in Florence. He continued his singing classes at the school. institutions of Pesaro and Milan. In 1952 he made his debut on the stage of the opera house in Spoleto (in the party of Jose). In the same year he was invited to the Roman Opera. In 1953 he performed the part of Anatol Kuragin (“War and Peace”) at the “Florentine May” festival. In 1953-54 he performed in the party Licinio (Vestal Spontini) at the La Scala Theater (Milan); in 1960 he was granted the honorary right to open a season in this theater (Polievkt - “Polievkt” Donizetti). After his debut (1961) at the Metropolitan Opera Theater (in the party of Manrico - “Troubadour”), K. was recognized as one of the outstanding sovr. singers. He has a powerful tenor with shiny tops.His singing is characterized by great emotionality and temperament. In the repertoire K. numerous. parts in operas by Italian composers; especially often he turns to the parties of Radames, Manrico; Andre Chenier, Lorisa (“Andre Chenier”, “Fedora” Giordano).
