ZAREMBSKY (Zarebski) Juliusz (28 II 1854, Zhytomyr -15 IX 1885, ibid.) - Polish pianist and composer. He studied the game of fp. in Zhitomir, then - at the Vienna Conservatory, to-ruy graduated in 1872 in the classes of fp. by I. Dax and composition by F. Krenn, and at the St. Petersburg Conservatory (1872-74). Since 1875 he improved in fp. game at F. Liszt (accompanied him on trips to Rome and Weimar). In 1878 he played at the World Exhibition in Paris on fp. with a double keyboard ("piano Manjo"). In 1880-85 he taught fp. to the king. Conservatory in Brussels. He toured in Europe at the same time (also with concerts on the two-keyboard fp.). As a composer, Ch. arr. plays for fp. (ballad, barcarole, lullaby, Polish fantasy, polonaises and other dances, cycle "Roses and thorns" - "Les roses et les epines", 5 improvisations, etc.); wrote works for two-keyboard fp.(not preserved); author of chamber music - fp. quintet, fp. trio; romances on the next A. Mitskevich. In the work of Z., based on Ch. arr. on a folk basis, the traditions of F. Chopin, as well as F. Liszt (virtuoso fp. technique and rich texture) are palpable, With regard to sound brilliance in some productions. anticipates the art of the impressionists.
