FRIMLE (Friml; pseudo - Roderick Primen, Roderik Freeman) Rudolph (7 XII 1879, Prague - 12 XI 1972, Los Angeles) - American composer and pianist. By nationality Czech. In 1900-03 he studied at the Prague Conservatory with J. B. Iranek (fp.) And A. Dvořák (composition). Since 1900, the accompanist of violinist J. Kubelik, toured with him in Europe and the USA. He made his debut as a solo pianist in New York (1904). Since 1906 he lived in the USA; in the same year he performed his concert for fp. with an orchestra with the New York symphony. Orchestra under the control of V. Damrosh. He later worked as a tutor at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He performed a lot as a pianist, conductor, arranged a large number of productions. In 1925 he took Amer. citizenship. Since 1965 he lived in Los Angeles. As a composer, he became famous for his operettas (30 in total), many of which were later filmed.The first operetta Firefly (The Firefly, 1912) was already successful. The most popular operettas are “Rose-Marie” (1924), “The Vagabond king” (“Vagabond king”, 1915) and “Three musketeers” (“Three musketeers”, 1928). Among others. Op.
