LEIBOWITZ (Leibowitz) Rene (17 II 1913, Warsaw - 28 VIII 1972, Paris) - French composer, conductor and musicologist. Since 1926 he lived in Paris. He studied the composition by hand. A. Webern in Vienna (1931-32). He studied instrumentation under M. Ravel, conducting from P. Monteux in Paris (1934). As a conductor he made his debut in 1937. The music of L., a follower of A. Schoenberg, is based on the principles of dodecaphone technique (see Dodecafony). In 1947 he organized the International Festival of modern. chamber music in Paris, which performed Op. young dodecafonist composers from different countries, as well as productions. Schoenberg, Webern and A. Berg. Popularization Op. Schoenberg and the composers of his school in France and other countries of L. contributed as a conductor and musicologist.
