OPERA-SEMISERIA (Italian opera semiseria, lit. - semi-serious opera) is a genre version of the opera that occupies an intermediate position between opera-series and opera-buffa. The term "semiseria", in contrast to "series" or "buffa", is not strict, but rather auxiliary (associated with operas of the 18th - 1st third of the 19th centuries). Sequential development O.-s. as a species is not observed. Her features (the penetration of a comic element into a serious opera and vice versa) were already evident in opera art of the 17th century. (Roman, Venetian, Neapolitan schools), but the term "semiseria" did not exist yet, because there was no term "series". To O.-s. include some operas by A. Scarlatti; with the greatest justification, its signs can be seen in the works of N. Piccinni, J. Paisiello, V.
