REFRENE (French refrain - refrain) is a term introduced to denote repetitions of the end of a stanza (one or several lines, sometimes even a single word) in song forms from the 12th to 16th centuries. Such R. are characteristic of ballads, French. rondo, wirele, ital. Villanella and Frottols, sp. vilyansiko, were also used in lauds, cantatas, and others. R. were widely used in later song forms. In Soviet musicology, the term refrain is used in this sense, while the term “R.” is used almost exclusively to indicate the theme of instr. or wok. production., passing at least 3 times and compositionally fastening it. In rondo, this is Ch. the theme, the conduct of which creates its overall structural framework. In rhomboid forms, it is also a sounding theme. R. sometimes takes the form of a leittheme (see Leitmotif), the conduct of which is associated with the embodiment of a particularly important idea;leitteme subjugates the development of the rest thematic. material, or at least has creatures on it. impact. An example is the fanfare theme of the entry in the 1st part of the 4th Tchaikovsky Symphony. When one of the themes of muses. production (especially large) becomes R., it not only distinguishes it, but also contributes to the structural unity of the whole.
