MELIKYAN Spiridon Avetisovich [19 XI (1 XII) 1880, Echmiadzin - 4 V 1933, Yerevan] - Soviet musicologist, composer, choirmaster, public figure. Failed activist Arts Arm. SSR (1933). In 1902 he graduated from the Gevorkyan Theological Seminary in Echmiadzin (student of Komitas), in 1904-08 he studied at the private conservatory of R. Schmidt (Berlin). In 1912 he founded the Armenian Muses in Tbilisi. society, in 1917 - Armenian Choral Society.
