KRYZHANOVSKY Ivan Ivanovich [24 II (8 III) 1867, Kiev - 9 XII 1924, Leningrad] - owls. musesfigure, teacher and composer. By profession a physician. Fish (music theory). In 1900 he graduated from St. Petersburg. the conservatory in the composition class of N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov. K. dealt with the problems of physiology. technicians (in 1923-24 professor at the course of theory of FP. technology of the Leningrad Conservatory), biological. foundations of the evolution of music (he lectured on the biological foundations of the evolution of music at the Leningrad Institute of the History of Art). A member of the Belyaevsky circle, K. was one of the initiators of the organization of Evenings of Contemporary Music. Sensitive to everything newhe was the first to appreciate the talent of N. Ya. Myaskovsky, who took lessons from him in harmony, and introduced young S. S. Prokofiev to the circle of St. Petersburg. musicians. The author of many musesop., including symph., chamber-instru. productions, concerts for violin and orchestra, fp. plays, romances, etc. K.'s work is generally eclectic, although some of his works. and attract sincerity of utterance.
