ROGERS (Rodgers) Richard (b. 28 VI 1902, New York) - American composer. Ch. Nat Institute of Arts and Literature. He studied at Columbia University (1919-21) and the Institute of Muses. Art in New York (1921-23). He held a number of senior positions in decomp. major music societies. organizations, including was director of Amer. Society of composers, authors and publishers (1941-47 and 1960 - early 1970s). R. - author of a large number of productions. He gained fame as one of the greatest masters of the musical, as well as songwriter. MnR. created musicals in collaboration with librettists L. Hart (worked with him for 18 years), then with O. Hammerstein, and later with S. Sondheim. Broadway theaters staged almost every year on the new musical R.;
