Dewayne Blackwell - Pains

HELFERT (Helfert) Vladimir (24 III 1886, Planice - 18 V 1945, Prague) - Czech. music historian. He studied musicology at Charles University in Prague at hand. O. Gostinsky, at the university in Berlin, studied with J. Wolf and G. Kretschmar. Since 1921 he taught music history at the University of Brno (professor since 1931). Since 1924 ed. "HUDEBNI Rozhledy." Since 1936 Chesh. Academy of Sciences and Arts. He performed as a conductor, led by Chesh. orchestral society. He organized the publication of monuments of ancient Czech. music ("Musica antiqua Bohemica"). Author of a number of studies, Ch. arr. about czech. music 18-19 centuries. (the most significant is about F. Miche). G.'s works on L. Janacek and J. Wend remained incomplete. During the fascist occupation of Czechoslovakia, he was a member of the Resistance Movement, arrested by the invaders and imprisoned in a concentration camp,in which he was until the end of his life (he died a few days after his release).
