The notes of this system were divided into “bodily” (somat) and “spiritual”, or “air” (pneumatic); the first were the intervals formed by the incoming movement, the second were jumps of the melody to a third or fifth. A special place was occupied by the sign "ison", indicating the repetition of the same sound.
