VERIKOVSKY Mikhail Ivanovich [8 (20) XI 1896, Kremenets - 14 VI 1962, Kiev] - Soviet composer, conductor, teacher. Failed activist Arts of the USSR (1944). In 1923 he graduated from the Kiev Conservatory. He studied composition with B. L. Yavorsky. Since 1921 he participated in the Partnership. N. D. Leontovich, in 1928-39 - the All-Ukrainian Partnership of Revolutionary Musicians. In 1926-28, conductor of the Kiev, in 1928-35 - Kharkov opera houses. Conducted a symph. concerts, he conducted pedagogical work in the Kiev music-dram. Institute, Kiev Conservatory (since 1946 professor). V. focused on wok. and symph. to music. That means. place in the work of V. occupy prod. on the histor. plots. The author of the first Ukrainian. ballet "Pan Kanevsky", the first Ukrainian owls cantatas and symphonic suites.
