WENIAWSKI (Wieniawski) Jozef (23 V 1837, Lublin - 11 XI 1912, Brussels) - Polish. pianist and composer, brother of G. Wieniawski. In 1846-50 he studied at the Paris Conservatory with J.P. Zimmermann, C.V. Alkan and A.F. Marmontel (fp.). From 1848 he performed in a duet with Henryk W., then with solo concerts as a pianist and conductor in Belgium, Germany, USA and Poland. In 1856, he improved his skills with F. Liszt (fp.) In Weimar and with A. B. Marx (counterpoint) in Berlin. Then he settled in France, where he promoted the music of S. Monyushko (contributed to the publication of his 34 songs in Paris in 1862). In 1866-67 he was a professor at Mosk.
