Schönberg emphasized that the meaning of this music is clear only to the initiates. The same desire to “express the inexpressible” with the help of short, aphoristic. sound strokes appeared in 5 pieces for the orchestra (op. 10, 1911-13), one of which lasts only 19 seconds. Mystic. the symbolism of these plays is revealed in the headings that were given by the composer during their first performance in Vienna: “Type”, “Transformation”, “Return”, “Recollection”, “Soul”. Subsequently, V.'s work evolved in the direction of an ever greater abstractness of language and style.
