BRASSEN (Brassin) Louis [24 VI 1840, Aachen, Sev. Rhine-Westphalia - 17 (29) V 1884, Petersburg] - French. pianist, composer and teacher. Belgian by nationality. In 1852 he graduated from the Leipzig Conservatory (class I. Mosheles). Concerted with his brothers - Leopold (pianist) and Gerhard (violinist). He was a professor (class fp.) Of the Stern Conservatory in Berlin (1866-67), Brussels (1869-78) and St. Petersburg. (1879-84) conservatory. Among his students are V. I. Safonov and V. L. Sapelnikov. In the late 70's - early. 80s occupied a prominent place among USA. and foreign pianists, he was a propagandist of L. Beethoven's work (in 1880-82 he performed all the Beethoven sonatas in St. Petersburg).
