Eric Church - Creepin

BLODEK (Blodek) Vilem (3 X 1834, Prague - 1 V 1874, ibid.) - Czech. composer and flutist. In 1846-52 he studied flute playing with A. Eiser at the Prague Conservatory, and composition with J. B. Kitl. He also studied the game of fp. at A. Dreyshok. He taught music in the province (1853-55). Upon returning to Prague, he gave concerts as a pianist, taught, was the second choirmaster of Prague's “Male Singing Society”. In 1860-70, a professor at the Prague Conservatory in flute class. In 1847 began composing. In the early period was influenced by the music of F. Mendelssohn. Later he became a follower of B. Smetana’s work, who highly appreciated B.’s talent. paints, nat. coloring. The one-act opera “In the Well” (“V studni”, post.1863) and Concert for flute with orc. (1862). He also wrote the opera Zitek (1869, neo-final, post. 1934, as amended by F. Vagni); for orc - overture (1850, 1852-54, 1860), symphony (c. 1866); for flute - Big Solo (1851), Bravura allegro (1852), Concert for flute and orchestra (1862); choirs, songs, fp. plays, church music, including 2 masses (1853 and 1865).
