BERIO (Beriot) Charles Auguste (20 II 1802, Louvain - 8 IV 1870, Brussels) - belg. violinist, composer and teacher. Founder of belg. violin player schools. Pupil A. Robbereht. At the age of 9 he performed with Spanish. a concert by J. B. Viotti, whose advice he later used in Paris, where he also took lessons from P. Bayot. In 1826 he performed in London. Until 1830 soloist of William I, King of the Netherlands. In 1830-35 toured sovm. with his wife - singer M. Malibran - in England, France and Italy. In 1843-52 he was a professor at the Brussels Conservatory (among his students were A. Vyotan, F. Prüm, E. Soret and others).
