In 1928, the composer began working on the opera Lulu (based on the plays Spirit of the Earth and Vedekind’s Box of Pandora), but did not manage to complete it. “Lulu” (post. 1937), as well as a concert for violin and orchestra (1935), were performed posthumously. B. is one of the most prominent representatives of expressionism in music.
