BENEFELDE Ada [6 (18) II 1884, Riga - 24 V 1967, Celle (Germany)] - Latvian. singer (coloratura soprano). Muses educated in Riga, as well as Berlin, where in 1908 she graduated from the Stern Conservatory. She performed in German opera houses (Berlin, Heidelberg, Aachen). In 1913-30 a soloist of the Latvian Opera (now the Latvian Opera and Ballet Theater in Riga). B. is one of the first prominent Latvians. opera artists. Parties: Laimdot (“Fire and Night” by Y. Medyn), Tamara, Antonida, Violetta, Mimi, Cio-Cio-san, Rosina, Gilda, Margarita; Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Constance (The Magic Flute), etc. In 1919–39 she taught in Latvia. conservatory (since 1929 professor). Since 1939 she lived in Germany. Acted as a conc. singer. In 1921 she toured the USA. J. Vitolin.
